A mother of three children was violently attacked and had R40 000 stolen from her after being woken up by a loud a bang on the door in the middle of the night.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, the woman and her children were sleeping in their Greenfield Esselen Park RDP home on June 8 when at midnight, the woman was woken up by the noise.
“The woman said when she went to check who was at the door, three armed men outside pointed firearms at her,” Molokomme said.
One of the suspects hit her with an iron bar and demanded money. The men then fled the scene with R40 000 cash.
“Fortunately, one of the suspects was recognised by one of the victims as someone he had seen earlier in the day driving a white VW Golf which had driven past their home.”
The next day at about 10am, the same suspect was spotted driving the same vehicle on the same street and police were alerted. D/Sgt Lufuno Magaba acted swiftly and the suspect (48) was arrested in connection with the incident.”
The man will face charges of house robbery and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm to a person. Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
