Business incentive for former addicts

In supporting youth month, the ANC Youth League in ward 79, together with Operation Thiba Nyaope, handed over a car washing business to the young people.

In supporting youth month, the ANC Youth League in ward 79, together with Operation Thiba Nyaope, handed over a car washing business to the young people who recovered from drug and substance abuse in Ivory Park.

The hand-over was made during the door-to-door drug awareness campaign which was held on Saturday last week.

The Ward 79 councillor, Clr Petrus Zitha and some members from the Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) joined the campaign.

The president of Operation Thiba Nyaope, Mr Terance Dzeli, said they hope to remove drug addicts from the streets.

“We want to help young people recover by keeping them busy. With the car wash, we hope they will do positive things for the community,” he said.

Mr Dzeli added said they also want to address young people about the dangers of drugs in society.

“We encourage young people to consider education as the future. In doing so, we honour the youth of 1976 who fought for youth rights and freedom in the country. We realise that drugs are jeopardising the life of young people. It is time we all stand up against drugs,” he added.

The chairperson of the ANC Youth League in ward 79, Mr Sibusiso Pakani, said young people should start to be organised.

“Organised communities get transformed easily. We encouraging youngsters to start some cooperatives and register them so that there could be more employment. As the youth league in this ward, we are aiming to help every young adult become better people,” he said.
