Child abducted
The Ivory Park SAPS is looking for a Mozambican woman who allegedly kidnapped a three-week-old baby boy from a shopping complex in Ivory Park Extension 15.
The child was taken on Tuesday last week.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the child’s mother claims she was on her way to buy nappies for her child.
Ms Marta Chambal was on her way home when her child was taken.
“It is believed kidnapper pretended to be looking for a place to stay, as she is possibly from Mozambique. The suspect asked the victim if her landlord could offer her a room to rent. Ms Chambal told her to ask the landlord herself. The suspect then told Ms Chambal that she was going to her friend’s house. The suspect paid another visit to Ms Chambal and offered to buy clothing for her child. They went to a shopping complex and the suspect gave Ms Chambal R100 to buy clothing. Ms Chambal gave her child to the suspect to hold while she was looking at clothing. While in store, the suspect’s cellular phone rang and she went outside to answer it. The suspect then disappeared with the child,” said W/O Sekgobela.
W/O Sekgobela said the child is light in complexion and was wearing a light blue baby grow, a white vest and a white hat. It is believed the suspect might be between 25 and 30 years old.
“The suspect is dark and has a big body. The child’s is Thulani Chambal. We are appealing for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect,” said W/O Sekgobela.
