Police nab suspects while trying to lift a gate off its rails

A woman waiting in a getaway car was also taken into custody

THREE suspects were caught by surprise when Norkem Park SAPS detectives caught them while trying to lift a gate off its rails at a Soutpansberg Drive, Van Riebeeck Park home on June 17.

According to Norkem SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, Det Capt Tau Mogoboya and Det W/O Kenny Mthembu were driving in the area at about 9am when they noticed three men attempting to lift the gate with a crowbar. A female accomplice waited for them inside a black VW Polo which was to be used as a getaway car.

“When the men saw the police approaching them, they attempted to run away. Two were caught but one managed to escape. They also arrested the woman in the car.”

The car was confiscated by police and will be investigated to see if it can be linked to other crimes.
