10 years in jail for housebreaking
A 23-year-old man for Illidinga Section was sentenced to 10 years in jail for house breaking and theft by the Tembisa Magistrate's Court on Friday last week. It is believed that Mlungisi Khumalo and his friends saw the son of the house owner going to the shop.
They broke into the house and began ransacking it. When the son returned, he realised that people were inside the house and he shouted for help.
Residents ran to the house to help, but the suspect’s friends managed to evade them. The 23-year-old was caught and some residents began assaulting him.
The arrival of the SAPS saved the suspect from further harm. It was later discovered that the suspect did not live far from the house which he and his friends had burgled.
“The jail sentence will serve as a deterrent to those who are breaking into people’s houses. I urge residents to close the market for thieves by refusing to buy stolen property. Report them to us and we will deal with them,”said the Tembisa station commissioner, Brigadier Johan Jacobs.
