The foetus was spotted by residents crossing on the bridge.
The Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha, confirmed that a case of concealment of birth was opened.
“We urge people to report any information of a woman who was known to be pregnant but who is no longer pregnant,” he said.
The foetus was certified dead by paramedics from the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services.
The body was transported to the mortuary by members from the Germiston Forensic and Pathology Unit.
