A fleeing housebreaker, who hijacked a vehicle trying to escape, was cornered on Pretoria Road on Thursday morning.
His accomplice, who allegedly broke into a house in Edenvale with him, did not get as far and was arrested close to the scene of the crime.
Const Sharon Mahamba, spokesman for Sebenza SAPS, said the two men were running out of a house in Edenvale when an Edenvale crime prevention vehicle spotted them and gave chase. One man was arrested.
The other one made it to Sebenza where he hijacked a silver Corsa Bakkie, using a firearm he had with him.
He sped off towards Kempton Park where the speeding vehicle was spotted by Sebenza SAPS, who was unaware of the situation. They gave chase as the bakkie was driving too fast.
They called for backup when the bakkie reached Kempton Park and a Kempton Park SAPS vehicle blocked it on Pretoria Road.
Mahamba said the suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of a firearm and the stolen bakkie.
No stolen goods were found on either of the men.
