‘Do not open for strangers’ – SAPS
The Ivory Park SAPS urges residents to not open their doors to strangers.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, their is a large number of house robberies occurring in Ivory Park.
“The suspects do not break or force entry, strangers simply knock especially on the kitchen door,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela said a woman in Ivory Park Extension 15 was robbed of R28 000 at gunpoint by three suspects.
“It is believed the robbery took place at the victim’s house after the trio knocked on her kitchen door. It is believed the suspects pretended to buy beer. The robbery took place at around 10 am,” said W/O Sekgobela.
When the door was opened, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and demanded money from the victim.
“The suspects entered the victim’s bedroom and took all the cash she had been counting. We are appealing to residents to not keep large sums of cash in their house. Rather place the money in a bank,” said W/O Sekgobela.
A similar incident occurred in Kaalfontein Extension 2, where a woman was also robbed in her house. Thieves stole two plasma televisions, two microwaves and other household appliances. A Green Mazda 323, which the victim inherited from her late husband, was also stolen.
“We encourage residents to identify who is knocking before opening any doors,” said W/O Sekgobela.
