Business owner, accomplices arrested for possession of council cables and taps

Officers from the Tembisa South Police Station arrested three suspects, including a scrap metal business owner, who were found in possession of municipal cables and taps.

According to the Tembisa South SAPS Station Commissioner, Colonel Samuel Maredi, police received a tip-off from residents about people stealing cables and selling them to a local scrap metal business.

Officers went to the location provided and found three suspects. The suspects could not explain where they found the cables and taps.

“They were arrested and will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Col Maredi.

He is appeals to residents who have information about people stealing taps to contact the police immediately.

“We are concerned about such suspects because after removing the taps, they let the water flow for the rest of the night,” he said.
