It is believed the child was raped by a 27-year-old suspect.
The Rabie Ridge SAPS spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, said it is believed the child’s mother left her with her landlady before going to work.
“The suspect took advantage of the victim playing on the street with other children. It believed he bought sweets and a ball for the children. He then asked the victim to go to his house with him. On arrival, he allegedly raped the child,”he said.
Constable Nhlongo said the victim went home and told the landlady that she was sore.
“She asked the child what had happened. The child told the landlady about the incident. The landlady phoned the child’s mother. When the mother arrived, they went to the police to open a case. The suspect was found at the same address the victim showed them and was subsequently arrested. He was detained at the Rabie Ridge SAPS,” said Const Nhlongo.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on the charge of rape.
