19 nabbed over the weekend

13 were arrested for drunken driving by EMPD and SAPS members

NINETEEN suspects were nabbed over the weekend by Kempton Park and Tembisa SAPS members as well as metro police officers for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen goods as well as drunken driving.

“On Friday at about 10.50pm Kempton Park SAPS’ Const Rasetlone was patrolling along Pretoria Road when he noticed three suspects in possession of a washing machine and stove,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.

When they were questioned they could not account for how they got the items. The suspects, aged 23, 30 and 29, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.

“In another unrelated incident Tembisa police, while patrolling, heard on the police radio about suspects driving an Audi A4 that was involved in an alleged hijacking of a Mercedes Benz in Midrand on Saturday at about 9.46pm.

While police were on Pomona Road they spotted an Audi A4 with three occupants. They pulled it over and upon searching it, they found a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off as well as seven rounds of ammunition, several gloves, passports and a screw driver.

“The three suspects, aged 36, 32 and 45, were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigation still continues to establish if they could be linked to the hijacking in Midrand,” said Mtshali

In addition to these arrests police and metro police officers arrested 13 suspects for drunken driving on Saturday during a joint operation.
