A naked man, with his hands tied behind his back, was rescued on Besembos Street on Saturday afternoon.
According to ward councillor Joey Roos, she drove past the open veld just past Builders Warehouse when she saw two men standing next to the road. A third man was lying on the ground.
On closer inspection she found out the man had come stumbling through the vlei area. He had been severely assaulted.
Sebenza SAPS was called to the scene. While waiting for an ambulance, Roos said they heard screaming coming from the railway station. A man was running towards them.
According to Sebenza SAPS spokesman, Sharon Mahamba, two males approached a woman who was walking on Besembos Street.
“The two men tried to steal the woman’s handbag from her. She resisted and was subsequently hit by the two men. After hearing the woman’s screams, community members saw what happened and gave chase after the two suspects,” Mahamba said.
One of the suspects, who was carrying the handbag, was caught by the people who chased him, but the other man, who had he woman’s cell phone, managed to get away.
A case of common robbery had been opened.
