Eight speedsters caught on R21
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department's (EMPD) Speed Unit nabbed a total of eight drivers who were driving over the speed limit on the R21 in Olifantsfontein over the weekend.
“A 41-year-old man in a Kia sedan was clocked at 183km/h, claiming he was late for a game of golf at Serengeti. Another man was man caught travelling at 162km/h. His excuse was that he had to rush his dog to the vet,” said the EMPD spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.
An addition six drivers were caught travelling at speeds between 174km/h and 163km/h, citing reasons a variety of reasons for their speed.
All eight were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Olifantsfontein Police Station and are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
All eight were released after posting bail.
