KEMPTON SAPS said a chain message regarding a Jeyes Fluid scam doing the rounds on social media is unknown to them.
“At this stage Kempton Park SAPS has not yet received any complaints or had any cases reported to us,” Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton SAPS, said.
“We ask the community to report such incidents to us.”
The message states that it is a warning from the police and a number is attached at the end of the message, which is supposedly from a Col Cor Snel from Pretoria.
This number is always either on voice mail or a message came through saying the mail box was too full when EXPRESS tried to contact it.
The message warns people of thieves creating home made “bombs” by mixing Jeyes Fluid liquid and a little water and pouring it into tin foil and plastic bottles. It is alleged the thieves then place these on people’s driveways or lawns and when picked up, it explodes in people’s faces.
This then gives the thieves an opportunity to attack.
The message read: “The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well. Don’t pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc. Pay attention to this: a plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Trying to disturb it by moving it – and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc. Please ensure that everyone that may not have email access is also informed of this.”
