Memorial service for slain policeman
More than 1 000 members of the SAPS attended the memorial service of a policeman who was gunned down in Kempton Park on Monday last week.
The memorial service was held at the Esselen Park School of Excellence in Tembisa.
It is alleged that Warrant Officer Lucas Munyai was shot and killed by armed men when he entered a business property on Monday evening.
The SAPS head of detectives in Tembisa, Colonel Boloka, was a personal friend of the victim. He said W/O Munyai was one of the best detectives in the SAPS.
“He was tasked with tracking stolen vehicles and to be precise, he was also an integral part of the detective strategies in Tembisa,” he said.
Col Boloka said that when W/O Munyai went to the business, he was unaware that a business robbery was in progress.
“Upon his arrival, the armed robbers attacked him. He died at the scene,” he said.
“We have lost a dedicated officer, a friend, a father and the backbone of the detectives in Tembisa. I am appealing to residents, the CPF and the SAPS to work together to make sure the killers are arrested and brought to book,” said Col Boloka.
The head of the Tembisa Cluster, General Vincent Leshabane, said the police will always remember the good work W/O Munyai did in fighting crime in Tembisa and the surrounding areas.
Gen Lehsbane also promised R100 000 to anyone who can help with information leading to the arrests of the suspects.
W/O Munyai served the SAPS for 27 years and he will be buried at Gondeni Ha-Makuya on Saturday, August 16.
