Emergency vehicle hits baby in pram

WHAT is believed could have been an emergency vehicle hit a baby in a pram on the R25 on Monday morning.
According to Nicolette Holshausen, an eyewitness, the baby was flung out of the pram. Its screaming mother found it next to the vehicle that hit it.

Holshausen said the accident occurred at about 7.20am on the R25 towards the M39. The mother and baby were crossing over the road towards Edleen’s side.
“They had crossed over the four lanes but once they got to the emergency lane closest to Edleen, a white Polo Vivo sedan (either a paramedic or fire department vehicle, as it had the logo on the door), was speeding in the emergency lane,” she said.
“No lights or sirens were on therefore I don’t believe it was an emergency. He hit the pram and the baby was flung forward. Everyone in traffic froze. The mom was screaming and looking for the baby. She found the baby next to the car that was stopped. This baby looked to be about six months old,” Holshausen said.
“This was not the first time pedestrians had been hit on this road. Last month I saw a primary school child knocked over. At what point will the traffic department do something to stop all these injuries,” she asked.
