Suspects were arrested for possession of dagga, driving under the influence of alcohol, shoplifting and common assault.
The Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Const Tebogo Sesing, said the police also arrested a 30-year-old man from Winnie Mandela, Zone 4, for allegedly raping and assaulting a 22-year-old woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“The victim claimed to be returning from a tavern when she met her ex-boyfriend. She alleged that the ex-boyfriend took her to his home and raped her. The victim was able to reach a police station and reported the incident,” he said.
Constable Sesing said the suspect was traced and later arrested.
The suspect was detained at the Tembisa SAPS and is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
“A 28-year-old man was also arrested in Mashemong Section for business robbery. A 31-year-old calimed to be operating his business on Friday afternoon when six unknown men entered. The suspects pointed firearms at the owner and his security guard. Bundles of cheese and nappies were stolen before the men fled the scene,” said Const Sesing.
The police traced the suspects and managed to arrest one.
The Tembisa SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Johan Jacobs, said they are happy with the arrests.
“We appeal to women to not walk alone during the night. Women are vulnerable to criminals. Rather have someone you trust walk with you, if you must walk at night. We also urge the community to give us information about any crime happening in the area,” he said.
