A car that was stolen in 2013 was found at Festival Mall on Thursday afternoon.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said the metro police’s loss control investigators approached two men in a silver VW Polo displaying no registration plates. A thorough examination of the vehicle revealed that it was stolen in Pretoria CBD in September 2013.
The arrest of the pair and the recovery happened at around lunchtime.
“The vehicle, whose registration plates were found in its boot, was detected to have had its VIN number changed, which did not correspond with its “new” illegal number plates, a factor which gave away the suspects,” Kgasago said.
Although both suspects are originally from Pretoria, it emerged that one of them now resides at Klipfontein in Midrand and the other one still lives in Mabopane.
Both suspects, whose ages are 33 and 45, were detained at Kempton Park Police Station on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
