REFUSE removal workers made a grim discovery on Thursday when they discovered a foetus in their refuse removal truck.
The foetus was discovered on Van der Walt Street while they were doing their normal removal rounds.
According to one of the employees who saw the foetus first, they had just finished collecting rubbish on Kerk Street and had moved to Van der Walt Street when he saw the foetus at about 9am.
“While we were picking up bins and loading the rubbish into the truck, I noticed one of the rubbish bins was oozing blood. When we opened it, we discovered the foetus, which was still attached to the umbilical cord,” the man said.
The men called their supervisors to the scene, who then informed the police.
D/Const Lungisa Kraai, who was on the scene, estimated the foetus could be more or less 5-6 months old.
