AN unlicensed firearm that was found in the possession of two teenage boys and a man in Kempton Park was traced back to an armed robbery in Limpopo.
According to the spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton police officers were patrolling on EP Malan Street on August 29 at about 12 midnight when they came across a suspicious looking Isuzu bakkie, which they pulled over.
“In the bakkie were three men, two 18-year-old teenagers and a 20-year-old man. Upon searching the vehicle, the officer discovered a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition.
“The gun was linked to an armed robbery in Mojaji’s Kloof in Limpopo in February this year,” Mtshali said.
The men were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and upon further investigations, it will be determined if they were involved in the armed robbery.
In another incident the following day police officers received a tip off about a business robbery on Casuarina Street in Kempton Park.
“Upon acting on the tip off, the officers followed a car the suspects were driving to Park Street. When the men realised the police were following them, one of them fled the scene, leaving his two accomplices behind.”
The two were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, containing three rounds of ammunition, and robbery.
