RESIDENTS are still being conned with a computer scam Kempton Express reported on in August last year.
According to Ben Keyser, a client of his recently received a call from someone claiming to be from Windows or Microsoft.
“This was not the first time but the fourth client of mine in Kempton who were contacted by these guys. The approach is to tell you there is a problem with Windows/Microsoft on your computer and they are will fix it via remote access.
“They try to install software on your machine (for remote control). Nothing stops them from that point on to install spyware on your machine. Then, off course, they want credit card information. I mean, you do have to pay them for their miraculous intervention,” he said.
“Do not allow anyone you do not know remote access to your computer. Not to mention giving credit card info to such a person. When they call you, put down the phone.
If you have allowed them access to your computer, just turn off the machine. Pull out the plug and call whoever supports your IT environment to do a virus and malware scan.
