BREAKING NEWS: Baby killer arrested

Ivory Park police arrested a 23-year-old Zimbabwean woman for allegedly drowning her baby at Ebony Park this morning. According to Ivory Park SAPS communication officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the police found a foetus inside a river at Kaalfontein, Extension next to Ivory Park today at around 11 am. –

“The police were informed by members of the community about the suspect who was heavily pregnant, after realising that she was no longer pregnant and there was no sign of the baby. Police confronted the suspect who confessed that she gave birth to a healthy baby on Wednesday night. She further said that she drowned the baby inside the bucket full of water,” she said.–
W/O Sekgobela added that the suspect told the police that she threw the baby into the river at Umfuyaneni section in Tembisa. –
“She said that she committed the crime as she could not afford to support the baby. According to her boyfriend , the suspect was nine months pregnant,” W/o Sekgobela said. It is believed that the suspect gave birth inside the house while her boyfriend was sleeping. According to the boyfriend, the suspect did not inform him about the incident. –
He added that he only noticed that the woman was no longer pregnant yesterday. When he inquired, she did not respond. Police were called and she was arrested –
W/O Sekgobela further said police are waiting for DNA tests that will be conducted soon. She also said that the suspect was detained at Ivory Park police cells. “A murder case was opened. The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” she concluded.
