Man with expensive stolen bicycle gives himself away to cops

The man saw the police vehicle approaching, dropped the bicycle and made a run for it

A man who was riding a stolen bicycle gave himself away to police when he tried to make a run for it when he saw the officers approaching him.

The 24-year-old suspect, according to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, was spotted riding a red and black Mongoose Motivator BMX bicycle, worth R3000, on Easton Avenue in Norkem Park on September 12 at about 1.30pm.

“One of our sector vehicles was patrolling along Easton Avenue when they came across the man. According to the police, as soon as the suspect saw the police car, he got off the bicycle and ran,” Molokomme said.

The police chased after him and managed to catch him. Upon questioning, he wasn’t able to account for the bike.

Later it was discovered that the bicycle was reported stolen from a home on the same street. The suspect faces a charge of theft.
