Woman claims assault to get rid of boyfriend

The woman allegedly gave a false statement against her boyfriend which led to his arrest

A young woman who allegedly lied to police about her boyfriend assaulting her, will face a charge of perjury.

The woman (22) was arrested by Norkem Park SAPS at Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on October 1 where her boyfriend was appearing.

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the woman opened a case against her boyfriend in July, alleging that following an argument between the two, he assaulted her and pointed a firearm at her.

“Police arrested the boyfriend but during his court appearance, the woman confessed to the investigating officer that she had committed perjury in an attempt to end their affair,” Molokomme said.

“She also said she was advised by a family member to press charges against her boyfriend,” he added.

“We appeal to community members to refrain from reporting false cases as we will ensure that they are arrested and convicted,” Molokomme said.
