About 200kg of crystal methamphetamine (tik) with a value of over R59 million was seized at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday.
Two separate consignments from Benin declared as containing prop shafts were identified for further checks, SA Revenue Service spokesman, Marika Muller said.
Narcotics detector dogs reacted positively to the cargo.
“On further investigation and the use of an angle grinder, a sugar-like substance was found concealed inside the prop shafts,” she said.
This was the biggest seizure of crystal methamphetamine at the airport, according to Muller.
The drugs had been handed over to the police for further investigation.
