A bakery driver was shot and killed in Tsenelong Section on Friday last week.
The incident occurred shortly before 8am after three unknown men allegedly robbed a spaza shop. The driver was making a delivery to the same store.
It is believed the driver was parked in the street while waiting for his co-worker to offload bread at the spaza shop. Three unknown men arrived and entered the store after it had been opened for the delivery.
It is believed that all three suspects were armed.
According to the Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Constable Tebogo Sesing, the driver was unaware of the robbery while he was waiting.
“The spaza shop owner and his co-worker were told to lie down. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash, air time and cigarettes. When fleeing the scene, the suspects came across the driver, who was getting impatient. He wanted to know why the delivery was taking so long. One of the suspects shot and killed the driver,” said Const Sesing.
A case of murder and business robbery was opened.
“The suspects fled on foot and no arrests have been made. We are appealing to members of the community to help with information which could lead to an arrest,” he said.
The driver died at the scene. Paramedics from the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services attended to the scene, along with the Tembisa SAPS.
