AN inquest had been opened by Kempton SAPS after a man was killed by a train on Monday, October 13.
According to eyewitnesses, Johannes Mpepe (28) was walking alone on the side of the platform at Birchleigh Railway Station and just fell in front of a moving train.
The incident happened at about 6.25am close to the Pretoria Road side.
Spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, Capt Jethro Mtshali, told EXPRESS: “Mpepe, who is suspected to be a Metrorail employee, was certified dead at 7am by EMS paramedics. When Kempton SAPS arrived at the scene, the mortuary was called.”
Mpepe lived in Angelo, near Germiston, at the railway homes provided by Metrorail.
