TWO suspects were arrested and found in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle with cell phones, Indonesian currency and a handbag on the R24 last week.
Metro police spokesman, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, said freeway officers on routine patrol along the R24 eastbound just after the Barbara Road turn-off, noticed a suspicious-looking white Nissan Navara with three occupants around 6.45am on Monday last week.
“On approaching the vehicle, the Navara screeched to a halt and three men jumped out and bolted on foot. Two were apprehended and one managed to elude arrest,” said Kgasago.
“The two suspects failed to convince the officers about the ownership of the vehicle and could not provide satisfactory answers about a woman’s handbag with R400 cash, as well as Indonesian currency estimated to be worth R20 000. Four cell phones were also found in the vehicle,” he added.
The Hillbrow duo, in their late twenties, were charged with being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of huge amounts of foreign currency as well as stolen property.
