TEN armed men in four or five cars crashed into a cash-in-transit vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of money at the airport this morning.
The armed robbery happened at 6am at ACSA Park on Jones Road. The security guards had apparently just fetched the money when the incident happened.
Emer-G-Med were first on the scene: “We received a call at about 6.15am from the airport about a cash-in-transit heist that had just taken place. When we got to the scene, we found three injured security guards who were travelling in a white Toyota bakkie with the money.
“According to them (security guards) four or five vehicles, including a white Mercedes Benz, rammed into their vehicle when they exited the parking area of the business park,” a paramedic said.
About 10 armed men, all carrying AK 47s, got out of the cars, ordered the security guards out of the car and took the money. They made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The robbers left the Mercedes at the crime scene and fled in the other cars, one of them either a black Golf GTI or a Ford ST.
The security guards sustained minor to moderate injuries in the crash and were taken to Arwyp.
No shots were fired.
