Residents hunt down and beat alleged killer

48-year-old Ms Ntsae Mokomane was allegedly raped and then killed in Tswelapele during the early hours of Monday morning.

The mother of three’s body was discovered just after 6am by residents, inside an old car.

The victim was still alive at the time.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but they were unable to save the woman, who died at the scene.

Several residents claimed the woman was returning from a local tavern, shortly after midnight, when a 40-year-old man attacked her. It is alleged the suspect first assaulted and then raped the victim.

Some residents also claim two men were fighting over the victim.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she heard a woman screaming at about 1am on Monday morning.

“It is claimed the victim ran into a yard, asking for help. The family living on the property was unable to help the victim as the suspect threatened to kill anyone who helped the victim. The family asked the suspect how much money he wanted to leave the woman alone. The suspect said the only thing he wanted was the woman,” said the resident.

“The property owners tried to phone for help, but the battery died on their cellular phone. There was nothing they could do as they were afraid of the suspect,” she added.

The suspect was later allegedly heard bragging about what he had done.

Residents gathered together to fetch the suspect, to face mob-justice.

The suspect was dragged from his house, stripped naked and beaten. He was saved by the arrival of the SAPS.

Mr Simon Mokomane, the victim’s husband, said he returned home from work late that night. He was surprised his wife was not at home.

“When I returned home, I went to bed as I was tired. My wife enjoyed alcohol but she never fought with anyone. I was surprised to come home and find that she was not there. She usually comes home when I finish work,” he said.

The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said that a case of murder was opened.

“The suspect is currently in hospital, under police guard. Investigations are continuing,” she said.
