AN armed suspect was shot in the shoulder by a business owner after about 10 armed men attempted to rob a Rhodesfield business on Tuesday morning.
About 10 to 12 armed men, one carrying an AK47, attempted to rob a parking services business on Catalina Street shortly after 10am. According to the owners and employees of the company, the men, who were wearing blue security jackets, arrived in two BMWs. The black car entered the premises while the other stayed outside.
“When I saw the black car coming in, I went outside to help, thinking it’s a client. Suddenly about six guys got out of the car, all carrying handguns, except for the one with the AK47. The one with the AK47 pointed it in my face and pushed me back into the office and demanded to know where the safe was,” said one of the office employees at the business.
“Then the guys just started shooting and going crazy.”
From inside the house on the same premises, the owners of the business heard a woman’s scream and a big noise.
“My husband and I were in our bedroom with our six-month-old baby when we heard the scream and the noise which at the time didn’t sound like a bullet shot. My husband went to check the CCTV cameras and that was when he saw there were armed men in the yard at the office,” the woman said.
Her husband went into his office (which is inside the house) and got his gun out of the safe.
“He looked through the office window and saw the suspect with an AK47 firing several shots at their dog.”
The man started shooting at the suspect through the window and he was hit in the shoulder. Unfortunately the dog died shortly afterwards.
After the owner had fired shots, the suspects quickly scrambled away from the scene. Nothing was stolen.
Everything was captured on the CCTV footage of the business.
CMS Security arrived on the scene first while Kempton Park SAPS gave chase after the suspects, who they lost on the way. It is believed they fled towards Alexandra.
Emerg-G-Med paramedics were also on the scene and treated a woman for chest pains as she had suffered from shock.
Spokesman for the the police Capt Jethro Mtshali, confirmed a case of attempted armed robbery was opened.
