A Ugandian con artist was finally arrested two years after conning a 64-year-old victim out of almost R200 000.
According to Kempton Park SAPS, the 34-year-old woman conned the victim back in 2012 after promising the victim she could multiply money belonging to the victim, an amount of R160 000.
“The victim allegedly gave this woman the money, who then disappeared. The suspect later contacted the victim again, demanding a further R30 000 for the money to be cleansed before it could be released,” Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for the police, said.
The victim contacted Tembisa SAPS, who set up a trap to catch the con artist. The police sent one of their detectives to meet the woman on November 15 at about 6pm at a food outlet.
As planned, the woman showed up at the KFC outlet on Monument Road in Kempton Park and police were able to make an arrest.
“The police urge the community to not be easily lured by such unscrupulous deals with strangers and instead seek professional advice from a reputable financial institution.”
