BE careful of strangers who offer you cheap or discounted goods, warn the police.
Kempton Park SAPS have issued this warning after a man was lured into buying cheap meat from a stranger but he was then drugged by him and robbed.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman of Kempton Park SAPS, explained:
“On November 20 a man had just withdrawn R2 500 from ABSA on Wolff Street in the central business district. He went to do his shopping and was approached by a stranger. The suspect promised the victim he knew of a place elsewhere that sold meat much cheaper,” Mtshali said.
This incident happened at about 10.15am.
“The victim agreed to go with the suspect. On their way there, the victim alleged the suspect opened a can of cool drink and offered him some, which he drank.”
After that, all the victim remembered was waking up in hospital. He was found by metro police officers unconscious on Wolff Street with his wallet with R3 000, bank cards and cell phone missing.
“This is starting to become a trend. Police have already recorded several incidents where criminals use the same method to fool victims. Hence we would like the community to be aware and careful during this Christmas and festive season. Police have started deploying members at all shopping malls to monitor such incidents,” Mtshali said.
