A lot of secrecy still surrounds the murder of a Kempton Park businessman who was shot and killed in front of East Shopping Centre earlier this month.
Deon van Staden of Centurion, who worked for Bidvest Panalpina Logistics in Isando, was apparently kidnapped in front of his workplace in Isando and shot dead on the highway at Eastgate on November 3.
A suspect identified on the company’s CCTV footage, Ronald Khumalo (36), was arrested and will appear in court on February 15 for a formal bail application.
Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini, provincial police spokesman, said his office was not allowed to give out any details about the case at this stage, as it was under judicial determination. He only confirmed the suspect’s name and the court date.W/O André de Jager, Germiston Cluster standby spokesman, said a firearm found on the suspect was sent for ballistic tests.
Bidvest also refused to comment on the matter.
Shortly after the incident, Bedfordview/Edenvale News reported that it was believed Van Staden was shot while driving. His vehicle collided with a street pole.
When officers arrived, they saw the man had been shot.
