BoyznBucks to rock Tembisans
BoyznBucks, a group of producers, DJ's and designers, is among the established artists who will be performing live at the Makhulong Stadium during the Red Bull Kas'lami event.
The event is to be held on December 7 this year.
BoyznBucks is the coming together of not only a group of friends, but a collective of skills with a love for music.
BoyznBucks’ spokesperson, Mr Phiko Mditshwa, said that with music as their starting point, they are poised for future projects in everything from fashion to art throughout the country.
“We are aiming to export South African culture and ultimately, to influence children. Let them know that they can do the same and be proud of who they are and where they come from. It is not easy when no one understands what you are trying to do. We believed and supported each other and, through that belief, things are slowly starting to fall into place. We encouraging young people to believe in themselves and those around them,” he added.
Mr Mditshwa said the group feels quite privileged to be part of the first ever Red Bull Kas’lami.
“A lot of what becomes popular culture comes from the townships we grow up in. It is about time that was recognised. We have been to Tembisa a couple of times as individual artists to perform. This will be the first time we are coming to Tembisa as an entire unit. It is going to be a movie, cava the line up, Okmalumkoolkat, Mkay Frash, Riky Rick, Bhubesii, Stilo Magolide, Dr Spizee, Scoopmakhathini, U_sanele, Phiko the whole time umswenko waya waya,” he added.
When asked how the group was preparing for the Red Bull Kas’lami, Mr Mditshwa said they have no choice but to always be ready as they are in the entertainment industry.
“You are only as good as your last show. We are putting the combinations together, spending a lot of time in the studio and honing our craft,” he said.
He added that they are known for being on the edge and for bringing a new flavour to street culture.
“From us, people should expect to hear the future sounds of this industry; expect to see the best street wear combos, expect iTurn Up juice yangempela,” he said.
Mr Mditshwa said the group’s goal for the future is to take the unique movements coming from their Kasi to the rest of the world.
“They deserve to be seen and heard. What keeps us going is our passion for design and art, as well as the appreciation and support we receive from the streets of emzantsi,” he added.
He said Tembisa has shown a lot of love and support to them, especially when Riky and Okmalumkoolkat came out to perform earlier in the year.
“The reception was overwhelming. We are happy to be here and to celebrate the festive season with you,” he said.
