Kidnap victim led into trap by friend and robbed of R57 000

The victim was kidnapped by three men who drove him to Brakpan, where the torturing took place

A Nigerian who was lured into a dangerous trap by someone he considered a family friend was tortured and robbed of R57 000, allegedly by a fellow countryman.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, the 37-year-old victim was called by a family friend to meet with him on Oak Street in the central business district on October 26 at about 9pm.

“Upon arrival, the victim was forced into a car with about three occupants inside and was driven to Brakpan. The victim was allegedly tortured by being stabbed several times and forced to reveal where he kept his money, which the perpetrators probably knew about,” Mtshali said.

The suspect finally surrendered and took the perpetrators to where he kept the his cash, and amount of R57 000. He was also robbed of his jewellery.

A 35-year-old Nigerian national had been arrested on November 21 in connection with the kidnapping and robbery.
