A man was arrested by Kempton Park SAPS after he falsely claimed his truck was hijacked at gunpoint in Pretoria.
According to the 29-year-old, on November 26 at about 10pm, the truck, which was loaded with big containers and generators, was hijacked in Sinoville, Pretoria. He said he was also robbed of R475 cash as well as his cell phone.
Spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, Capt Jethro Mtshali, said the case was followed by the tracing unit, which discovered the man had in fact lied about the hijacking and robbery.
“Upon investigation, it was established that the man was in fact not hijacked but instead was seen driving around in the truck in Bredell. He had apparently sold the goods in the truck to a Zimbabwean accomplice,” Mtshali said.
The suspect will appear in court on charges of defeating the ends of justice and perjury.
