Kempton’s load shedding roster: 4 Things you might not have picked up

Hopefully the new schedule will address these inconsistencies and give us all a fare share of the darkness - at the indicated times

SINCE the introduction of continuous load shedding by Eskom, many Kemptonians grabbed their schedules to try and plan their lives.

However, this was not very successful, as load shedding hardly ever occurred as indicated on Ekurhuleni’s load shedding schedule.

The same happened almost everywhere in the country, as a matter of fact.

But, the sharper ones did pick up some interesting facts about Kempton Park’s schedule.

1. The orange section (Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Kempton Park extensions, Bonaero Park) has only been included on the schedule in the beginning of the month and then at the end of the month (From the 4th to the 22nd – no load shedding). This means 14 days of the month.2. Glen Marais and Allen Grove (bright green colour) are only scheduled for load shedding on 20 days of a month.

3. Every other suburb, including the Kempton CBD, are scheduled for load shedding every day of the month.

4. Edleen is nowhere included on the schedule (EXPRESS could in the meantime establish that Edleen falls with Van Riebeeck Park)

One resident said: “It seems logical to me that if any preferential treatment is to be given to minimise economic damage, traffic congestion and the number of people inconvenienced, primary preferential treatment should be given to the CBD.

“Secondly, if all suburbs were scheduled to have load shedding on an equal rotational basis, this should allow the duration of load shedding to be reduced to less than three-hour slots as is currently allocated.”

Armed with these “inconsistencies”, EXPRESS decided the best way to go about it, was to approach the metro.

Unsurprisingly, the answer from metro spokesman Themba Gadebe was short and sweet:

“We acknowledge receiving the complaint and agree with the observation by the customer. We are busy amending the load shedding schedules to address all the raised concerns.

“New schedules will soon be placed on the metro’s website. Notice will be given to customers once they have been amended.”

Hopefully the new schedule will address these inconsistencies and give us all a fare share of the darkness – at the indicated times.
