Female officers launch operation
The Tembisa SAPS Cluster's female officers launched Operation Basadi on the first day of 16 Days of Activism recently.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the officers spent the whole day travelling through the Ivory Park area, tracing domestic violence suspects.
“During Operation Basadi, female officers managed to arrest a Mozambican in Tswelopele Extension, after he arrived home at around 1am. It is believed the suspect found his girlfriend and his son sleeping and tried to break down the door. The suspect allegedly told the girlfriend he was the one paying rent for the room they were staying in. After the girlfriend opened the door for him, the suspects accused the woman of having an extra marital affair. He allegedly assaulted her and chased the woman and his son away,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela added that the later returned to the room and found that the suspect had broken dishes, the table and the television.
“Tembisa SAPS Cluster’s female officers are appealing to the community to stop violence against women and children as they will be arrested,” she said.
