A New Year’s Eve party turned sour when a 19-year-old stabbed another 19-year-old to death during an apparent altercation.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the incident occurred just after midnight when a group of youngsters were having a party on Mynhard Street, Birchleigh North, in celebration of the new year.
“It is alleged that the suspect was fighting with one of his friends when the deceased tried to separate the two. The suspect then turned on the deceased and stabbed him in his upper body,” explained Molokomme.
The victim was rushed to hospital where he later died.
Molokomme said police did not find the suspect at the scene but at about 2.50pm he was brought to Norkem Park Police Station by a member of the community.
The suspect will face a charge of murder.
In another incident last week Tuesday at about 11.45pm, Norkem Park SAPS, along with members from Imvula Security, arrested four male suspects on CR Swart Drive in Edleen for possession of stolen cables.
According to Molokomme, a security officer from Imvula was patrolling around the area when he heard a funny noise from a manhole housing telecom cables.
“He called for back-up from his co-workers who, upon investigation of the manhole, spotted four male suspects trying to pull out some cables from the hole using a chain block,” explained Molokomme.
The suspects were caught red handed and found in possession of cables estimated to be about 20m long with a value of about R25 000, a chain block and hacksaw.
The four, aged between 25 and 41, will face charges of theft.
