Metro police stayed on high alert during festive season

Twenty-seven people were arrested for drunken driving, while one ended up behind bars for reckless and negligent driving

THE metro police had a busy festive season in Kempton Park, issuing 1 807 citations.

They attended to 50 accidents in which two people were killed.

A passenger was killed when he was ejected from a vehicle which had lost control on the R21/Pomona Road on December 6 at 11.30pm.

On December 21 at 4.25am the driver of a vehicle was killed on the R24 west/Barbara Road in a single vehicle accident, metro police spokesman, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said.

Twenty-seven people were also arrested for drunken driving, while one ended up behind bars for reckless and negligent driving.

Fourteen speedsters were also arrested.
