Mofokeng shines with six distinctions
An 18-year-old pupil from Tersia King Learning Academy in Tembisa, Palesa Mofokeng, passed her matric examinations with flying colours when she achieved six distinctions.
Mofokeng obtained distinctions in English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Business Studies, Life Science and Physical Science.
Mofokeng said she was not expecting six distinctions.
“I am overwhelmed, proud and thankful for the results,” she said.
Mofokeng said she was boosted by external sources such as Saturday classes and the Junior Tukkie programme, which she attended at the University of Pretoria.
“I would like to thank God for everything, my parents, sisters, teachers and friends for their special support,” she added.
Mofokeng, who was the Head Girl at Tersia King Learning Academy, said it takes discipline and determination to be able to make it.
“I was not as sociable as my fellow pupils. I engaged more in study groups after school,” she said.
Mofokeng will be studying medicine at the University of Pretoria.
She was also awarded an entrance scholarship from the University of Pretoria.
“I am blessed to be given the opportunity to live my dream. I always wanted to study medicine. To those who did not make it, they should believe in God and themselves, have perseverance and go again. Failing does not determine your future. Failure is a part of our daily lives,” she added.
Her mother, Ms Kitlile Mosehle, said Palesa has been the best from grade 1.
“My daughter has been the top academic achiever until now, when she passed with six distinctions. I feel blessed and happy. She made my year,” she said.
Tersia King Learning Academy’s principal, Mr Conrad Maritz, said Mofokeng is the first pupil in the school’s history to have achieved these marks.
“I feel proud and happy. I know she will make us proud in her future career. She is a hard worker and intelligent,” he said.
