A Boksburg couple in their fifties had been arrested on Wednesday after the Hawks had discovered dagga worth about R100 000 growing in a sophisticated hydroponic drug lab at their home.
Officers raided the house shortly after 10am and found the extensive crop growing inside a backroom of the property.
Police found a sophisticated hydroponic grow operation with 72 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. The house also contained processed marijuana that already had been harvested for sale.
The marijuana consisted of different strains, labelled with names.
Police also discovered 10 tortoises which were removed by the Protective Species Unit.
The couple will face charges of manufacturing and dealing in narcotics as well as the illegal possession of a protected species.
