THE couple caught on video apparently stealing a manhole cover last year is free to go.

The case against Engela Smith (30) and Stephen Gruindeling (29) was withdrawn by the state in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The act was caught on CCTV footage released by the business they were stealing from, SoundXperience.

The couple was arrested in the early hours of October 14 at their Birchleigh home, where police found more allegedly stolen manhole covers and burglar bars.

No reasons were given for the withdrawal.
