Family to approach police minister
The family of a man kidnapped from Festival Mall in Kempton Park on September 30 last year, said they would like to contact the minister of police, Nkosinathi Nhleko.
The want the minister to place experienced and dedicated investigating officers on the case.
Mr Itani Kanakana‘s kidnappers where arrested after the family helped the police.
Mr Kanakana’s elder brother, Mr Fhatuwani Mukwevho, said after they opened the case about his disappearance, they realised the investigating officer was doing nothing.
“We decided to help the police by giving the necessary information regarding the kidnappers. They arrested the suspects, but they have still failed to get any information from the kidnappers regarding the whereabouts of my brother. We had a meeting as a family and we decided to contact the minister,” he said.
He added that they spent the festive season wondering what had happened to his brother.
“Is this how the police work in the new South Africa? Perhaps the minster would be able to brief us on what we should do about the situation,” he said.
The spokesperson of the SAPS in Kempton Park, Captain Jethro Mohlala, acknowledged that the suspect are still in custody.
“Presently I am on leave, but I will look at the relevant information regarding the case when I go back to work on Monday,” he said.
