The vehicle was abandoned in Ivory Park, Extension 9, it was then recovered on Wednesday morning last week.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the SAPS received information about the vehicle which was abandoned in the street.
“Police officers proceeded to the given address and found a 40-year-old man inside the vehicle. They asked him if he was the rightful owner of the vehicle. The man said he did not know. The officers then searched the vehicle. The officers found paperwork inside the vehicle indicating that the vehicle belonged to a man in Hercules,” she said.
W/O Sekgobela added that the officers also found an identity document with a deposit slip inside.
“They called the owner and confirmed that the car belonged to him. It was later established that the vehicle was stolen. The 40-year-old man was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” she added.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
