Armed robbery ends in fatal shooting
WHILE a burglar was calmly collecting jewellery in an Edleen house, security guards were waiting outside for the owner, oblivious of his presence.
But that did not matter at all, as the unsuspecting thief (21) was arrested when the home owner arrived.MML reaction officer, Ryno Opperman, said he received a call for back-up at about 3pm on February 5 from his colleague, Shawn Wright.
“Shawn got an alert that an alarm had gone off at a house on Olyf Street and he went to investigate. On his arrival he found a window was broken and he called me for back-up,” explained Opperman.
Opperman said they did not think there were still any suspects in the house and they called the owner of the house and awaited him outside.
“When the owner arrived, we walked into the house, only to find the suspect walking down the stairs with his loot. He made a run for it,” he said.
The suspect escaped through a window and jumped over a wall into Duvenage Street, where he hid in a bush.
“We ran after him and were told by onlookers there was movement in the bush and that’s where we found him and made an arrest.”
The suspect was handed over to Norkem Park SAPS.
