Petrol station thieves halted by security guard

Two of the suspects attempted to flee after being caught but were chased down by the police

A security guard caught three thieves red-handed who attempted to steal money and cigarettes at a petrol station shop in Isando in the early hours of Sunday morning, February 1.

According to Const Sharon Mahamba, spokesman for Sebenza SAPS, the three suspects broke into the store on the corner of Isando and Barbara roads at about 2.30am.

Unfortunately for them, a security guard was on duty and had been stationed inside the shop at the time.

“The three suspects, who said they had planned to steal cash and cigarettes, were caught by the security guard before they could finish their mission,” Mahamba confirmed.

At the same time, a sector vehicle had been patrolling and saw the incident. One of the suspects was arrested on the spot. The other two attempted to flee but were later caught by the police.

The three suspects, aged 27, 38 and 45, will face charges of business burglary.
