A man who went to assist his brother, whose car broke down on the N3 on Tuesday night, was tragically killed when he was hit by a car.

In the meantime the dead man’s brother had been hijacked and wounded in the leg.

Danielle Dooley, Emer-G-Med spokesman, said the tragic incident happened at about 9.30pm on the N3 south between the M2 split and the Geldenhuis interchange near the PPC cement factory.

“It is alleged that a man’s car had broken down on the side of the highway. He called his brother to assist him. He was then hijacked and shot in the leg.

“His brother arrived and ran across the highway and was struck by a vehicle. He died instantly,” Dooley said.

Medics treated the gunshot patient on the scene. He refused ambulance transportation to hospital as he didn’t want to leave his brother’s body.
