A truck hijacked in Putfontein in Benoni was recovered on the highway at the airport within an hour this morning.
The 51-year-old man, who was driving the stolen vehicle, was arrested and charged with being in possession of a stolen truck at Kempton Park Police Station.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, said Ekurhuleni metro police officers from the precinct and freeways responded swiftly to information provided by SANRAL officials on a truck that was hijacked at around 11am.
“Metro police officers closed in on the truck at around 11.40am at the split of the R21 southbound and R24 westbound and arrested the driver.
“The owner confirmed that his driver was dumped in Putfontein just after 11am. Information gathered revealed that the perpetrators were travelling in a white Nissan Sentra and a Black BMW 3-Series. Police are searching for the two vehicles and its occupants.
